After his death the popular Grammy Award-winner named Jeff Coffin, who had previously been a member of the Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, has been playing for the band in Moore's spot. When they tour Rashawn Ross and Tim Reynolds are also their full time members.

The lyricist for this band that is David John Matthews, prior to this had been a bartender in Charlottesville Virginia by profession. He had become friends with a lawyer named Ross Hoffman who had finally encouraged him to sing. Hoffman had been hoping that Matthews could find some other musicians who would perform for him on some studio work. In addition to this it had been Hoffman again who had convinced Matthews to approach a drummer named Carter Beauford.
